Senior Russian General 'Sacked by Putin for Fabricating Ukraine Success Stories'

A Russian general has been dismissed after being accused of fabricating battlefield success reports in Ukraine.

Colonel General Gennady Anashkin, who led the Russian Army's 'Southern Group' operating in eastern Ukraine, was reportedly fired following claims of false reports.

According to the Russian military blogging channel Military Informant, misleading reports of “supposedly significant breakthroughs” began emerging from the Siversk area, where Anashkin’s troops have been engaged in combat with Ukrainian forces.

Meanwhile, the pro-Putin Telegram channel Rybar alleged that Anashkin unnecessarily caused the deaths of hundreds of soldiers by sending them to the frontline poorly prepared and ill-equipped for battle.

According to The Daily Telegraph, neither the Kremlin nor the Russian Army have officially commented on the reported dismissal.

State media, however, cited a source within the Ministry of Defence who confirmed Anashkin’s removal but claimed it was part of a “planned rotation.”

Despite this, Russian military bloggers have welcomed his dismissal, suggesting it could lead to improvements in operations and a greater focus on protecting soldiers' lives.

Anashkin had only been appointed as commander of the Russian Army’s Southern Group in May.

For his leadership of airborne units during Russia's 2008 war with Georgia, Anashkin was awarded the title of Hero of Russia, the country’s highest honorary distinction.

His reported dismissal follows claims that a top Russian general was killed by British Storm Shadow missiles on November 20.

The strike, launched by Ukraine, allegedly killed Lt-Gen Valery Solodchuk and around 500 North Korean soldiers. Additionally, reports suggest 18 of Putin's officers were killed and another 18 wounded.

This marked the first confirmed use of UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles to strike targets deep inside Russian territory.

It is understood the precision-guided missiles hit a Russian command post and military facility in Maryino, located on a Tsarist-era estate in the Kursk region. The scale of the reported losses is said to be significant.

While Russian authorities have yet to confirm the casualties, the alleged losses—if verified—would be a severe blow to both Russia and North Korea. Independent confirmation of these reports is still pending.
